Sleeplessness is a big problem in America. According to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), almost six out of ten Americans report having insomnia at least a few nights weekly. Insomnia is defined as “An inability to fall asleep or remain asleep long enough to feel rested, especially when the problem continues over time.” In an effort to combat this, as many as 25 percent of the people in the United States use medications to help them sleep.

The use of prescription sleeping drugs, such as Ambien, Lunesta and Sonata, has been steadily increasing. Global sales for all sleeping pills, called hypnotics, will top $ 5 billion in the next several years. Most sleeping pills, especially when taken over long periods of time, stay in the bloodstream, giving a hangover the next day and beyond, and impair memory and performance on the job and at home.

From a nutritional perspective, several research studies have shown certain minerals to be effective alternatives to help people fall asleep and stay asleep through the night. James F. Balch, M.D., author of “Prescription for Nutritional Healing”, writes: “A lack of the nutrients calcium and magnesium will cause you to wake up after a few hours and not be able to return to sleep.”

The pioneering nutritionist Adelle Davis discusses natural sleep remedies in her book “Let’s Get Well.” She says: “A calcium deficiency often shows itself by insomnia, another form of an inability to relax. The harm done by sleeping tablets, to say nothing of the billions of dollars spent on them, could largely be avoided if the calcium intake were adequate.”

A relatively new form of calcium — calcium lactate gluconate — is emerging as a popular choice for fortifying beverages (such as orange juice and sports drinks), because of its ability to dissolve readily in any temperature of liquid — cold or hot. This is the first of a series of Three photos in the "Three Wise Monkeys" theme.

While they are in fact a comment on Censorship and Government interference. They are not a comment on the current Flickr/Germany situation.

I have said this recently in several places, and it was not necessarily well received;
I believe the problem with the current German Users/Flickr lies at least in part if not a large part squarely at the feet of German lawmakers. It is the ridiculous age verification laws for websites directed at German users that has made it completely prohibitive for Yahoo/Flickr to allow nudity to be accessed by German users. Can anyone really expect a corporation to expose their employees to possible imprisonment to meet an ideal of Freespeach?

I cannot claim to understand how the lawmaking apparatus of Germany works. However, I do believe that German users need to consider putting some of their energies to changing the current laws regarding age verification.

All of that being said; I deplore censorship of any kind and find the current state of Government meddling in broadcasts of any kind in the US to be unbearable and absolutely immoral.

Every electronic media device in my home comes with an amazing invention attached to it. This invention is called………the "OFF SWITCH".

I do not believe those who would abdicate their responsibility as parents, in their role as the person(s) who explain the difference between appropriate and not-appropriate and enforcing these rules, have no right to infringe upon my right to listen to, watch, read, eat, and absorb through osmosis any form of entertainment I desire.

Of course any material that is created through the harming of individuals and especially children cannot under any circumstance bear these protections.
